Space Dungeon

A prototype version exists, dated 10-12-83, that says "(c) Atari 1983" on the title screen (picture #1), instead of "(c) Taito of America Corporation 1981" (picture #2), along with a few other minor differences.

The first 7 levels each have unique locations for the Collect Bonus room and your initial starting room (ex: Level 1 is always the same, Level 2 is always the same, etc).  Starting on level 8 and ever level afterwards, you always started in the lower-right corner and the Collect Bonus room is always in the upper left.

Level sayings:

Completing level 1 – THIEF’S IN VIEW ON LEVEL 2.
Level 2 – MORE TO SEE ON LEVEL 3
Level 3 – WATCH EACH DOOR ON LEVEL 4
Level 4 – STAY ALIVE ON LEVEL 5
Level 5 – WATCH FOR TRICKS ON LEVEL 6
Level 6 – IT’S NOT HEAVEN ON LEVEL 7
Level 7 – MEET THY FATE ON LEVEL 8
Level 8 – YOU’RE DOING FINE ON LEVEL 9
Level 9 – SORRY NO MORE RHYMES

When you complete level 99, the same level keeps repeating.

RUMOR: Level 7 – The starting room should have 1 door leading out.  Leave the starting room and immediately get killed.  You should return to the starting room, and the doorway will be flashing- eventually turning into a solid wall and trapping you!  {Jim Buszkiewicz – Electronic Games Sept 84 pg. 19}

RUMOR: Level 7 – The “collect bonus” room has no exit doors (picture #3)!  As such, you can’t go any farther in the game.  {Jim Buszkiewicz – Electronic Games Sept 84 pg. 19}
