BURGERTIME

2 versions exist! Later production runs added a choice of difficulty levels using the TV Type switch (B/W = easy, COLOR = hard) and fixed the first bug listed below. {BSR}

There’s a total of 5 different mazes (pictures #1-#5).  After completing the 5th maze, the mazes keep repeating, starting with the first maze.

None of the enemies can move beyond the right or left-most ladders, but depending on which maze you’re on, you can either avoid the bread stick or all of the enemies by staying to the left or right-most areas past those ladders.  For example, on the 4th maze, you can avoid all of them!  {Ronnie Dingman}

Despite Mattel’s efforts to not have any flickering in the game, both the hot dog and prize items will flicker when both are on the screen at the same time.

The manual states the maximum score possible is 999,950.

BUG (original version): The hot dog is always slightly lower on a platform (its feet are a pixel below the level).  On some levels the same thing happens with the cheese and egg.  Normally this isn’t an issue, but on the 3rd and 4th mazes, there are levels that are only separated by 2 ladder rungs.  Any enemies that are a pixel below the level they’re on can touch you if you are directly beneath them.  Conversely, any enemies that aren’t below the level can touch you if you are directly above them.  Apparently this was corrected in a later cart revision.  {Scott Stilphen}

BUG: If an enemy touches you while you drop a burger piece out from under him at the same time, the game will crash. {Scott Stilphen}

BUG: After you drop the last bun, you can still get killed while it's falling.  {BSR}

BUG: Sometimes a falling bun or patty won't kill a nasty that's on a ladder below it.  {BSR}

BUG: When the chef is on the bottom step and peppers down, a second headless chef will appear at the top of the screen (picture #7).  {BSR}

BUG: If you’re too close to the right edge of the screen when you pepper, it will wrap-around to the left side (picture #8).  {Scott Stilphen}

BUG: If you get killed while a bonus treat is displayed, the graphic for the treat may change to a hot dog. {BSR}

BUG: If the game is turned on with the pause mode on (Left Difficulty A), it will lock up.  Put the switch to B to start it.

BUG: The chef’s graphics will become slightly distorted when using the left-most ladders.  {Scott Stilphen}

FRYING: May result in 100 free chefs! Fry until your chef appears to the left of the top ledge.  The rest of the ledges will all be the same length.  You won’t be able to move your first guy, and you’ll get killed.  Only problem with this trick is that you won’t be able to make any hamburgers. {Scott Stilphen}
