TAZ / ASTERIX

EASTER EGG: Hit SELECT 22 times, and then hit the FIRE button to start. When the “CRAZED WAVE” appears (at 32,500), hold the FIRE button down to change it to reveal “WOITA WAVE”, for programmer Steve Woita (picture #1). {Steve Woita} The message doesn’t appear in the ASTERIX version (remains as “OBELIX WAVE”), but it does appear in some of the prototypes in place of the “CRAZED WAVE” message!

The “mystery” dessert (mentioned in the manual) is a pie. It appears after the completion of 3 full-course meals, at around 525,000 points, in both Taz (picture #2) and Asterix. Every meal thereafter includes the pie. {Scott Stilphen}

The action speeds up when you hit the crazed wave, and again at the start of the 3rd meal.

If you graze a stick of dynamite while moving either up or down, you’ll keep moving and “die” on the adjacent row (picture #3). {Scott Stilphen}

The highest score possible is 999,500 before the score rolls over at 1 milli

RUMOR: A rare 1984 re-release exists that scores differently.  As far as I know, this 1984 version has never been archived.
