STEEPLECHASE
• Most pcbs have "Astroturf-1" on them. This was the project name for Steeplechase during its development.
•
There's an edge connector trace on the pcb that doesn't have a corresponding pin
on the harness connector. The earliest revision of the schematics indicate this is the output connector
for the Tape Interface. It's believed this interface and the accompanying tape
player were never included with any production games. These are the signals
being generated:
20hz
ATTRACT
5v
LEAD HORSE 1
LEAD HORSE 2
LEAD HORSE 3
LEAD HORSE 4
LEAD HORSE 5
LEAD HORSE 6
LEAD HORSE 7
It appears the game designer intended on using a looped tape player that played
when the game was in attract mode, and for which horse was in the lead during a
race, offering either music or commentary. The signals could also have been used
for a lighted annunciator board or panel, possible as a cabinet header.
• Speed up hack: Adding a cap from ground to pin 15 of IC A2 (9316) will speed up the game to the point it's almost unplayable.
