VENTURE
3 different ROM versions exist. Later versions are harder with one big difference being the Troll room (upper right, Level 2). On the earlier ROM version, there is a trick I discovered to get the 2nd troll every time that does not work on the later version. While I can still get it on Level 2 by other means, on Level 5 its incredibly fast, so killing it without the aforementioned trick is no easy task. Plus the Hall monsters come into the room much sooner in these later levels, so there is a lot less time to grab the treasure and get out. I can complete the room, but I often have to use the Hall monster to block him rather than actually kill him to be able to escape. And even this strategy requires that the Hall monster enter the room from a certain location, which is randomly selected each time. {Jonathan Koolpe}
By level 9, there is some pure luck involved as some of the hall monsters become faster than your player on this level, so if they appear in certain places when you first enter the level, it is simply impossible to get to certain rooms without losing a life, particularly the Bat room. Sometimes I can use the slower monsters to block the faster ones, but this strategy is by no means absolute so unless I have enough lives saved up so that when I first enter level 9, the hall monsters that can appear near the entrance to the Bat room happen to not do so or be delayed enough so I can reach this entrance, I can end up losing multiple lives quite quickly. {Jonathan Koolpe}
There are only 9 levels. After completing the 9th (and getting all the treasures see picture), the 9th level keeps repeating.
Repeatedly enter and exit the same room 5 times. When you exit the 5th time, a Hall monster will be right in front of the door, immediately killing you. This was mostly likely done to prevent someone from tying up the machine.
BUG:
The original flyer makes some questionable claims about the game:
It states the magic bow (the last treasure on the chart, which is on level 9)
gives the player special powers when shooting at creatures, which it does not,
nor do any other treasures.
It describes some rooms having hazardous conditions, such as "shrinking walls
(magic shoes) and "deadly ooze". The room with shrinking walls is likely an
exaggeration of the "Wall" room (level 1, upper-left) where the some of the
interior walls simply move in and out rather than actually shrinking. The rooms
with deadly ooze could describe any dead bodies that linger and then slowly
disintegrate (pixel by pixel) after killing a given enemy.
It mentions a secret hidden room. I don't see any magic shoes in the treasure
chart. This might be the 'T' room (level 2, upper-right) where you have to wait
for some of the walls to disappear, but there's no secret room per se that's
ever been discovered.
It also claims Winky would be appearing in a future Exidy game, but that never
happened.
A 2nd version of the flyer mention the spider room (level 2, bottom) features a
damsel in distress, with a 3rd version stating the damsel is Winkette!
