DUMBO'S FLYING CIRCUS

EASTER EGG:  Scoring exactly 10,000 (or multiples of) causes the balloons to turn into the initials “PcN” (for Peter C. Niday - see picture).  {Peter Niday}

To earn extra lives, you need to pass a multiple of 20K during a wave; the extra life will be awarded at the start of the next wave (so you must survive to that point, otherwise you don't get anything).

You can have up to 8 lives in reserve, although the maximum onscreen reserve lives icons displayed is 4.

Scoring is as follows:

10 points for touching a standard balloon
12 points for touching a bomb balloon (the large pulsing ones. Touching a bomb balloon also costs you a life)
25 points for shooting a standard balloon
33 points for shooting a bomb balloon
40 points for shooting a balloon with a clown hanging off of it (you have to shoot these)
200 points for catching a clown
300 points for catching Timothy Q. Mouse (the little figure that appears at the end of a wave)

The score counter rolls at 100,000.

There are four different types of clowns, each with a uniquely colored balloon and intro sound effect, that appear in a set order for Waves 1-4.  On Wave 5 and beyond, the game randomly chooses which type is seen for that wave.

Starting on Wave 14, ten or more clowns will appear in a single wave;  As a result, a diamond graphic will appear in place of the number on the end-of-wave screen (picture #2).  This graphic doesn't appear to be used anywhere else in the game and may have been either from a gameplay idea that was never implemented or graphic data accidentally leftover from another project (Sorcerer's Apprentice?).

BUG: If you're right next to a balloon and try to shoot it, the shot might pass through the balloon instead.  {Gordon Taylor}

BUG: The screen will sometimes "jump" on the frame a balloon, usually a bomb balloon, is spawned.  This tends to happen more often in the high-speed later waves and may be a result of the game not being able to "keep up" with all the processing work necessary for the balloon spawns.  {Gordon Taylor}

BUG: A dot will sometimes appear in the upper-right corner of the screen when the player is pushing up on the joystick.  Normally this dot is hidden by the ceiling layer but it will become visible if the ceiling is dropped low enough during gameplay.
