Atari Bionics

The Atari Bionics system was designed for the health care field. The system consisted of a base module with option modules for monitoring specific patient stats (blood pressure, heart rate, etc). Atari product designer Regan Cheng designed the look of the system and its modules. The cartridge connector seen on the side of the base module was for attaching monitors and other devices; one of Regan's sketches even shows an Atari VCS attached to the base module!  According to former Atari alumni Michael Albaugh, "Atari/Warner was okay with this sort of project, until they found out that to be classed as a medical device (and thus be eligible for disability discounts or whatever), Warner had to turn *all* their accounting info (like an SEC filing).  Disclosing their entire operational and financial structure to make/sell a niche product was not happening."
