Atari Vidcom

Atari's Vicom was a communication aid device for those with speech or hearing impairment. The Vidcom I was a portable hand-held unit with built-in keypad and LED display. The Vidcom II was the hand-held unit plus a modem/link. Offered by Atari's Professional Products Division (this division actually existed and was running, albeit very briefly).  According to former Atari alumni Michael Albaugh, "Atari/Warner was okay with this sort of project, until they found out that to be classed as a medical device (and thus be eligible for disability discounts or whatever), Warner had to turn *all* their accounting info (like an SEC filing).  Disclosing their entire operational and financial structure to make/sell a niche product was not happening."
